Not that Snowball would EVER....

Well, it's Friday. What do YOU have planned?

Pol Arida at the Velvet

Last Saturday we had the pleasure of hosting a live performance by the incredible Edinburgh based musician Pol Arida; "the Hitchcock of Songwriting" as Nick Cave called him.
I did wonder what Olde Nick meant by that? Is Pol rotund and artistically sadistic? Is he really good at long camera shots that reveal something terrible? Actually the second one fits, he is capable of telling a story in a cinematic prose that reveals a terrible truth, and he does that with the suspense building guitar style known as the hammer.
It was a great gig, a real success, we had 37 people there at the peak, until they started crashing (good old Velvet sim) so big thanks to all who came, massive thanks to Pol, and huge thanks to the promoter M4SK, who runs the Lumeria art gallery on the Velvet sim. There will be more gigs in the new year including some names considered legendary in the music business.
Here are some photos by our resident snapper Dammi Quan.

Holy pop

Just like an old love affair. See her after a long time and all the tender thoughts and feelings spin back again.
You feel the comfort ,the tenderness, the lovely dreamy ,trippy  state of mind and soul.
And that's exactly happened to me this weekend. I heard again the velvet voice of Sarah Cracknell.
And I fell again for her..I remembered....
So it's not difficult what to expect between 3-5 pm slt at THE VELVET.Me ,Chrisodd and some voices I fell in love with in the past..and some recent ones....and some new stuff..and..

Sampletasia!!!

From the album ''Silent Congas'' .LARRY GUS's second but debut for DFA label.
All you sampledelica lovers might be fall in love with that.It sounds simple but it is not that simple and it is very pleasant as the first and only AVALANCHES masterpiece ''Since I left You''. Not as groundbreaking ,not as nostalgic, more than a record created by a child playing with his toys but certainly a record where you can admire the talent of this young Greek sample chef in making such a tasty sound gourmets based on spicy grooves, jazzy aura and pop feeling...
Oh you can also download it for free.At least give it a listen ,right now...

Crystal Day....

Today is the official release of the third chapter of the decaying into urban darkness. This album is frustrating, black and tensive. It offers moments of ''clean air'' and most of it is a sad and angry side effect of taking the red pill of reality.
CRYSTAL CASTLES created another dark poem of punk electronica.Their third instalment is a spooked travel through 21st city decay.A not -cathartic romantic trip where the streets have no names and the people suffer from lack of heaven.I can't listen to it without my eyes wet and my chest tight.....
Today's musical Oddyssey (@ THE VELVET 3-5 pm slt) is also a trip to the modern city fears and its streets with no names. Songs from CRYSTAL CASTLES career, dark electronica, old new wave ,cyberpunk and some new songs ...Also songs from before Apocalypse as a more optimistic tone through this trip....We still believe in the stars you know....

New Artist of the Week: Black Marble

When I first heard this song, I was almost positive I was listening to some early 80's track that had slipped into Bagel Radio without Ted noticing.
Much to my surprise, this is off the debut EP of a group called "Black Marble" from Brooklyn.
And man is it catchy.

Thank you for loving Pupkin.

Just a pick-up set

Who's ready for an election?

There are no other worlds... Huh ?!

This is what one of the most innovative artist in Greece claims.
He uses this title for his new podcast, which is a jazz/ethnic psychedelic musical trip/soundtrack/mission/ oddyssey, through a world never approached before.
Where even Flying Lotus love to meditate and the skies are orange as the sun hits the clouds in the sunset.
Sometimes through this music I teleport there and I watch the view, from this fantastic scenery sounds that already existed but not like the person who calls his project ''Fantastikoi Hxoi'', a greeklish word that stands for '' Imaginary or astounded or super ,Sounds'', put them together..Really ! I am so jealous of this mix, especially.
Chrisodd is a dedicated fan of his music and he will return when his new album is released. When he doesn't mixing sound for his unique compositions ,he is mixing sounds that carry you far away...This podcast is the best thing I've heard these days.Total drifted away from both worlds.Into my third world (of dreams) but awake....So no other worlds ? Really ? You must be joking man !!
Listen to this unbelievable set below but get to his eclectic blog spot for the setlist...

noise

Every day I find the best song ever, sometimes more than one a day, and this one has been the best song ever so many times that it's about time it was shared today, here, in this receptacle of ghosts, to dwell haunted here by your motion captured shadows.
This band were a Japanese radical psychedelic noise band who were also heavily involved in political situations, protesting against the wankers who run the world. Nothing much changes, the wankers always run the world.
The music makes the world a better place.

A Small Lesson in Musical History

Well hey there.

Today I'm going to share with you one of the most important songs in the history of 20th century music you've probably never heard. The second most important song in 20th century music history is James Browns' "Funky Drummer", but today we're going to talk about "Amen Brother" by the Winstons.

You're Welcome.
