Ariel Pink was one of the most authentical cult figure in the 00's. These days, his second album for 4AD is already in the stores and as he claims it's the album he always wanted to record, which is true. Maybe his reputation was a bit bad during the past two years but he speaks better through his music, showing how great artist he is. The first video from ''Mature Themes'' is funny and a bit nostalgic . ''Only In My Dreams'' recalls old days of pop and soft rock but it is also, a brilliant 2012 single that makes my days sweeter. Oh ! Among guests ( the one who throwed him out from the motel room) you can recognise this very important underground performer/arttist/musician who has strong connecton with Ariel. Geneva Jacuzzi is another favorite artist of mine and I am happy to present you a video from one of my favorite songs that came from her super ''Lamaze'' lp released in 2010...
I love Prince Rama, and this single from their forthcoming concept album is super.
It was nice to be back at the Velvet after a long vacation, but my system failed me and I didn't get to play my set, so we all missed out on cartoon dancing to this super song. I'll try again next week, hope you can make it, and you, and you too. x
This last week I came across this tune. The sound of Moon Duo made me remember the sound of rock bands from the 80's-90's. Awesome sound and atmosphere simply love it...
Their songs are a mix of rap, electro, punk, dubstep thrown to the citizens' sleeping concience in the heart of the capitalism.
Pure angry, rude, unpleasant bunch of guys of the 21st century, full of rage against the environmet they live, they have have released '' The Money Store'' their explosive second album, first in a major label and the whole process of listening to it,is like sitting on a timebomb or an iron ball of nails .Pretty uncomfortable music ,angry, alarming and upset.
Just the '' music '' I listen to my subconcious level, while watching strikers got murdered just because they demand a better way of living or seing people die from starvation around the world or watching stock markets define our living, making the rich richer and the poor poorer. DEATH GRIPS' music can express my or maybe your rage .
It has the elements to annoy but also alarm population like a ''virus'',staying away from churches,House of Parliament etc. No need to piss off anyone. Just a cultural ally to a growing discomfort of the masses who see their lives going from bad to worse.....Check their lyrics there...
And there ya go. Apparently, that's worth a couple years in "prison".
The lyrics are on the Yube page, so I won't re-post them here. It's depressing, outrageous, and somewhat frightening what's happened as a result. I don't know if things would be different if it had happened here. I honestly don't.
I have something really special planned for tonight. I have picked out 120 minutes of songs that I felt are fairly epic in terms of beat quality and dance quality. It's like, if I could kick your ass with just 30 songs, what would I pick? And this is what you will get. Come listen and dance. This is gonna be a good Friday.
I'm being away from SL but never stop thinking about great music to share with you here on Velvet.
The tune for this week post is one of the most amazing musics I came across last year (2011) so it could be some old for some of you guys, and can be refreshing and new for the rest of you. As I always say music is never old...
Tonight's set is an ode to the car. From The Doors to They Might Be Giants, Johnny Cash to The Kinks, musicians have had a lot to say about cars. So car lovers - from 5 to 7 is your time tonight - at The Velvet
In
my tonight’s set on the day of our sim opening, I’ll revisit some of my
favorite musical moments of 2012, mainly of the deliciously dark
variety. As a little preview, here’s something from a duo whose sound
has been characterized as “at once funereal and exhilaratingly
romantic”...
For
this week post I'll bring a music from a musician called Paulo Furtado,
who's solo artistic name is "The Legendary Tiger Man". This guy not
only have his own solo project, but he also works in a band project
called Wraygunn (which I should post in a future post perhaps, I really
should!), and he still works helping another musicians on their own
projects. This guy really enjoys what he does and really have passion
for music and art, and he is giving us a great collection of wonderful tunes. So let's hear the man...
Yes,unfortunately my vacation are over, but luckily I found a ton of new releases to wait for me.Still dizzy from them, they are all great,I give you one of my favorites.Another new track from the much anticipated new ANIMAL COLLECTIVE album.Listen to this and join me this Monday the 6th ,3-5 pm at the new ,cooler VELVET,for the ''ton '' of new releases I was talking about... Needless to say I missed you all and I'd be happy to join me...
I can't say I have any organizing principle or theme for tonight's set. It's a mix of pop, rock, country and folk. Great songs, fabulous voices, interesting lyrics. It's just music - without regard to genre. Voices you may hear tonight: Jack White, Feist, Regina Spektor, Loretta Lynn, Jewel, Jenny Lewis, and Justin Townes Earle with bands from Waldeck to Monsters of Folk and Morphine.
This is not a very well thought out blog as I have very little time to write it. Just a quick note to say that I'll be playing another set of rockin' indie tunes tonight. There was going to be a theme of moody songs because the week had been so tough for me, but I decided it's too soon to depress everyone. And besides, I feel like cheering myself up with my usual mix of indie goodness.
Hopefully next week, I will be a little less scattered, with a fun theme.
For the last two weeks I've been traveling in my
vacations. Now I'm back home so now it is the time to post here for you
one great tune from a band called "Micro Audio Waves":
You'll be amazed by these guys, their sound sometimes resembles "Metric".
